In contemporary society, globalization, urbanization, and economic development have sparked unprecedented transformations in attitudes toward relationships, marriage, and fertility. Over the past few decades, nations worldwide have seen a shift, with younger generations prioritizing personal freedom, independence, and self-fulfillment over traditional family-centric values. In Macau, rising economic growth, educational attainment, and shifts in gender roles have propelled young adults toward more individualized choices.
This study examines relationship, marriage, and fertility perspectives among undergraduate and graduate students at the University of Macau. These groups provide a window into evolving social values, shaped by factors like educational background, career aspirations, and cultural context. By documenting and analyzing these trends, we aim to uncover the cultural, economic, and personal factors influencing students' views. Findings from this study will offer crucial insights into the implications of shifting attitudes on future population dynamics, economic stability, and social policies, providing a valuable basis for policymakers and scholars alike. Additionally, with the University’s diverse and international environment, this study will enable cross-cultural comparisons, enriching our understanding of how cultural backgrounds shape perspectives on marriage and fertility in a globalized context.
